My Definition of life

Seeking your Area of Significance/your Domain Part 1

Acts 13:36 “For when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed.”

Psalms 78:72 “And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skilful hands he led them.”

Genesis 1: 26 “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, in Our likeness and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

God created us in His own image and likeness and it is very important to realise that we have the power and authority given to us by Jehovah God. As the children of God we need to realise that we were created to leave a mark on the planet earth, to transform the earth and make it a better place.

Identity

In creation it is important to note that God had a purpose for man (...let them rule over......) before he created the man. He actually first defined man before man had seen the sun and that definition is in two parts

1. Relationship to the Creator (...in Our image, in Our likeness......)

2. Purpose of man (......let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth and over all the creatures that move along the ground.)

After the definition of man we see God then creating the defined man in Genesis 1:27 and in verse 28 He speaks the purpose to man as a blessing. Purpose is a blessing so if you want to live in the blessing move into your purpose. Further on we see God empowering man with the mandate for his life on earth and how he is supposed to be living. However it is important to note that what God is saying is like a sermon of man’s purpose being given to man.

We can clearly see that purpose precedes a solution in the life of inventors. An inventor realises a problem (darkness) and looks for something to overcome the darkness (purpose). So he works tirelessly to try to get something to give the light. He might have to try as many times as he can to get it but he will not give up. What drives him is the purpose of that which he is to create even though it is not yet there.

So everyone’s identity is bound by the two factors:

1. The relationship with the Creator or Source

• Because He is the one who has an in-depth understanding of your make-up and the way He made you.

• He had a situation He wanted you to deal with, a reason He came up with you.

2. Your purpose in life.

• The purpose precedes the solution. Before you was an idea, it might be music, evangelism, teaching and you were supposed to just move into it.

• Your make-up and design is such that you can truly excel and be fully fulfilled in that area.

• You can live a life of happiness and the blessing in that area as you will have the blessing of the Lord.

Living a purposeful life will then be bound by how you understand it, so you will then realise that your relationship with your Creator is very important so that you can have a clearer view of your purpose. The level you will fulfil your purpose is proportional to your level of significance. Those who are/were masters of their domains are those who excelled in their domains. They dominated because they had dominion in their domains. Consider people like Bill Gates, Pele, Michael Jordan and even the late Michael Jackson.

Acts 13:36 “For when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed.” Purpose shows your assignment for your generation which you have to fulfil before leaving the earth. David did not live aimlessly but he served God’s purpose in his time and thus his footprint is still visible, a mark that will not be rubbed out easily. He lived a significant life.

The word of God in Genesis 1:26, God gives the general purpose of man, the reason why man was created. This can be called the Universal Purpose of Man. This will define man and differentiates man from animals, angels, plants and God. So we can further discover that purpose will also define and differentiates. Purpose also guides and directs.

The Universal Purpose of Man

1. Resemble God :- Image and likeness of God

2. Represent God on Earth

3. Reflect His Glory

In part Part 2, I will be dwelling more on the Universal Purpose of Man. God bless you as you live in your zone of significance, your life purpose, your domain.
